Holiday Wreath Class Recap

The wreath class was so much fun that next year we’ll be having it twice as it sold out so quickly!

We started with both conventional and unconventional materials. Using long lasting drought resistant blooms like Protea and Brunia is an unexpected but interesting choice for wreaths.

As usual class started with my demonstration of techniques. The white pine foliage I was using can be very sappy, hence the gloves. We used a 18″ wire wreath frame and 24 gauge spool wire to attach white pine, blueberry cedar, upright amaranthus and lots of other unusual textures.

This class also featured a glitter station and one of the students glittered King Protea and Brunia which was really quite beautiful.  We also stocked lots of ribbons to decorate with.

We can’t wait till next year’s class to implement even more ideas and we’re even kicking around the idea of a Spring wreath class!

Thanksgiving Class Recap

I’ve been remiss in recapping several of our great classes from 2011. The Thanksgiving class was a blast though, everyone left with stunning design in a low dark copper bowl to grace their Thanksgiving table.

Sometimes we work in a concise color palette but for this class we had a lot of different combinations available.

My demonstration design was in cream, green and brown. It was a big hit at my cousin Dara’s house for Thanksgiving!

From pale shades of lavender to true fall reds and oranges, the students designs were  imaginative, interesting and of course really beautiful. I hope their Thankgiving guests loved them as much as we did!

“Love will tear us apart” February 16th 6-9PM

Feeling melancholy around Valentine’s Day? You’re not alone, floral designers have a serious love/hate relationship with the day so come join us as we celebrate surviving another year.  We’ll be working with…well to be honest, we’re not quite sure what we’re going to find in the aftermath of the big day but there’s sure to be tons of gorgeous blooms and not all of them will be red.  We’ll also have local chocolates and wine! Because as one of my favorites Ian Curtis said “Love will tear us apart”

Colors of Autumn Recap

Here’s what you missed at our October Colors of Autumn class…

I didn’t want to limit the palette to just the reds and oranges of Fall so we had almost every color available to work with.

My demonstration design was decidedly pink, mostly because I wanted to save the true fall colors for the students to work with!

We worked with a large moss texture covered tin vase. It was quite large and we needed lots of material to fill the designs. Large designs can be challenging sometimes and it’s important to build a strong foundation of sturdy stems to support the showier flowers.

I say it every time but I love seeing what each student comes up with. The next several classes are Holiday focused, two different centerpiece classes and the Wreath & Garland classes. Register soon to guarantee a space!

Now take a look at these awesome designs by the students…

I’m a little late with the recap on our Unconventional Flowers class from August but here we go…

We had so many just plain weird flowers to work with but everyone still made some beautiful compositions.
